New Rochelle, NY - Niagara fell to Iona 71-53 Friday night at the Hynes Athletic Center.
The Purple Eagles fell to 4-11, 1-4 MAAC, while the Gaels improved to 11-6, 3-3 MAAC.
showed resilience in the first half but couldn't maintain its momentum as Iona dominated the second period to secure a 71-53 victory Thursday night at Hynes Center.
The game got out to a very even start with Will Shortt, Justin Hawkins and Justin Page each scoring for the Purple Eagles for a 7-7 game.
The Gaels went on a 22-0 run during a 10 minute timespan. Hawkins broke the run with his second basket of the game. Reggie Purdhomme followed that up by hitting back-to-back threes.
Iona ended the half on a 12-7 run leading Niagara 41-22.
Out of the halftime break Trenton Walters and Landon Williams both converted on three point attempts to cut the deficit to 44-28.
Page and Kabeya Tshibangu led a 8-2 run, Iona answered that with a 15-2 run of their own to grow the lead to 66-38.
The Purple Eagles ended the game on a 15-5 run led by Page and Josiah Sabino scoring four and three points respectively.
