Richmond, Va. - Men's basketball fell to VCU 84-58 in non-conference play Monday night at the Stuart C. Siegel Center.
The Purple Eagles fell to 2-9, while the Rams improved to 7-4.
Niagara got out to a 7-3 lead with baskets from Will Shortt and Landon Williams.
The Rams answered back with three straight three pointers to gain a 12-7 advantage, but Reggie Prudhomme capitalized with a three of his own to stop the VCU run.
The game stood at a standstill at 23-15 for four minutes as neither team was able to see a shot fall.
Niagara went on an 11-0 run starting with a Williams three followed by three straight baskets from Kabeya Tshibangu to cut into the Rams lead making it a 32-31 game.
VCU hit another three and layup, while Williams added a three of his own in the final minute of the first half as the Purple Eagles went into the break down 37-24.
Niagara knotted the game up at 40 to start the second half with buckets from Williams, Shortt and Justin Hawkins.
The Rams then went on a 15-6 run to gain a 10 point lead at the 10:27 mark of the second half.
Hawkins connected on two free throws to cut into the lead, but VCU answered with a 15-2 run in the next six minutes to grow their lead to 21.
VCU extended their lead the rest of the game as the Purple Eagles ultimately fell 84-58.
