Box Score Buffalo, N.Y. — Niagara (17-27, 12-16 MAAC) opened up the three game MAAC series against Canisius with a 7-5 victory on Thursday at Bobo Field.
How It Happened
Niagara got things started in the top of the first when Vincent Mauro singled to bring home Elijha Hammill. The Purple Eagles doubled their lead in the second when Jacob Brooks scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Rees Kozar.
Jason Green extended Niagara's lead to three in the top of the fourth with a solo home run to left field. Canisius got two runs back in the bottom of the sixth and the bottom of the seventh, highlighted by a home run from Josh Niles.
The Purple Eagles reinstated their two run lead in the top of the eighth with an RBI double off the bat of Mauro to score Hammill once again. Nate Milk then brought home Mauro to cap off the inning.
In the ninth Green hit a two-RBI single to plate Curtis McKay and Kozar. Niles hit his second home run of the game for the Griffs in the bottom of the frame and then Cisco hit a two-RBI double but Niagara was able to hold on to the lead.
Maximilian Ramirez IV got the start on the mound for the Purple and White, throwing 5.0 innings, allowing no runs on three hits. Andrew Damiani came on for relief for 0.2 innings before Gage Wheaton took over for 2.2 innings. Matthew Delvechhio threw the final 0.2 innings of the game.

• Niagara is now 33-44-1 against Canisius.
• Kozar recorded his seventh multi-hit game of the season with his three base knocks in the victory.
• Green extended his team lead in home runs to 11.
