Box Score 2 Niagara University, NY — Niagara's men's and women's tennis teams both defeated Marist on Saturday. The men took down the Red Foxes 5-2, while the women won 6-1.
The Marist men took two of the doubles matches at the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. The duo of Vid Maric and Tanner Bedard defeated Gregor Heinemann and Jose Catala at No. 1 doubles (6-1).
In singles play, Bedard took the victory at the No. 1 singles (6-0, 6-1), while Marist came back to win the No. 2 singles match. The Purple Eagles then swept the rest of the matches with Maric, Mikolaj Kowal, Jose Maria Garcia and Gurustat Makkar all winning their matches.
On the women's side, Niagara swept the doubles matches with Larisa Kotok and Valeria Mora taking the victory at No. 2 doubles (6-2), while Mercedes Velasco and Saloni Tamang were victorious at No. 3 doubles (6-3).
The Purple Eagles also had a strong effort in singles play. Niagara swept the top four positions with Maria Melo, Mora, Kotok and Tamang all winning their matches pretty handily. At No. 6 singles Velasco battled into a third set match and was able to come out victorious (3-6, 6-4, 1-0).
