Box Score WEXFORD, Pa. — The Niagara University men's tennis team improved to 3-3 on the season with a convincing 5-2 victory over Duquesne University on Sunday at the Oxford Athletic Club.
The Purple Eagles captured the doubles point by winning two of the three matches, with the No. 1 contest going unfinished.
Gurustat Makkar and
Mikolaj Kowal dominated their No. 2 doubles match 6-2, while
Trevor Masi and Jose Maria Garcia secured a 6-4 win at No. 3.
In singles play, Niagara won four of six matches, led by top performers
Tanner Bedard and
Vid Maric. Bedard controlled his No. 1 singles match with a 6-4, 6-2 straight-set victory over Keita Duclos, while Maric overcame Alfrendo Vogelaar 7-6, 6-1 at the No. 2 position.
Makkar added another point at No. 4 singles, defeating Enrique Lana 6-4, 7-6. Garcia battled through a three-set contest at No. 5, rebounding from a second-set loss to beat Tancredi Alfano 6-0, 4-6, 6-2.
The Dukes managed points at No. 3 singles, where Aril Kayra Tuna defeated Kowal in three sets, and at No. 6, where Teo Papadopoulos outlasted
Rohan Srivastava in a third-set tiebreaker.
