Adderley-Julien Earns Third At MAAC Championships; Niagara Sits Seventh After Day One

Lawrenceville, NJ—The Niagara women's track & field team opened up the 2024 MAAC Championships on Saturday afternoon in Lawrenceville. After the first day, Niagara sits seventh in team scoring with seven points.

Hannah Adderley-Julien-Julien and Clara Barr both competed in the long jump. Adderley-Julien had a best jump of 5.70 meters which earned a bronze medal and a spot on the podium. The sophomore earned six points for the Purple Eagles. Barr turned in a best jump of 5.16 meters.

The day of the track started with the 100-meter prelims in which two Purple Eagles raced in. Deborah Borysewicz turned in the third best time of the day to punch her ticket to the final with a time of 12.42. Lauryn Speicher earned the final spot in the final as she had the eighth best time with a time of 12.78.

Three Purple Eagles competed in the 100-meter hurdles prelims. Barr was the top finisher for the Purple Eagles, she finished with the 12th best time at 15.94. Maddie Schultz turned in a time of 16.35 to close out her freshman season. Fellow freshman Dayanara Gonzalez finished with a time of 16.74.

Borysewicz punched her second finals ticket of the day in the 200-meter. She finished with the fourth best time of prelims with a time of 25.35. Speicher finished prelims with a time of 26.25 which was the 13th best time. Daniela Velez and Kate Pratt turned in times of 27.10 and 27.29 respectively.

In her final MAAC Championships, Pratt punched her ticket to the finals in the 400 meter as she ran a 58.87 which was the fourth fastest time of the day. Sapphire John turned in a time of 1:01.28 which was the 10th fastest time. Arrianna Blachowicz turned in a time of 1:05.38 in her first MAAC Championships event.

Three Purple Eagles competed in the 400-meter hurdles prelims. Vanessa Woolery qualified for the finals with a time of 1:06.45 which was the seventh fastest time. Lara Gritzek just missed a trip to the final with a time of 1:08.98 as it was the ninth fastest time, it was a new personal best for the junior. Mychena Smith turned in a time of 1:13.20 which was the 13th best time of the day.

Sara Mueller set a new personal record in the 1500 meter with a time of 5:07.49.

Alissa Mete earned a point for Niagara as she finished eighth in the 3000-meter steeplechase. Her time of 11:43.54 set a new program record.

Up Next

On Sunday, Megan Jackson will compete in discus and shotput. Niagara will have a 4x100, 4x400, and 4x800 relay. Pratt will compete in the 400 meter. Borysewicz and Speicher will both look for gold in the 100 meter final. Woolery will be in the 400 meter hurdles final. Borysewicz will compete in the 200 meter final.
