Ashland, OH—The Niagara track and field team closed out the regular season on Saturday at the Ashland Alumni Invitational.
Freshman Deborah Borysewicz and Lauryn Speicher opened the day for the Purple Eagles in the 100 meter sprint prelims. Neither runner advanced to the final. Borysewicz turned in a time of 12.37 which was second in her heat. Speicher finished third in her heat with a time of 12.60, her time set a new personal best for her in the 100-meter sprint.
Niagara's 4x100 team was next on the track as they turned in a third place finish. Sapphire John, Speicher, Hannah Adderly-Julien, and Borysewicz turned in a time of 47.17. It was the fastest time by a Niagara relay this season by over a second.
Sara Mueller was up next for the Purple Eagles in the 1500 meter. Mueller turned in a time of 5:15.54 as she finished 13th.
Arrianna Blachowicz was the lone Purple Eagle to run in the 400 meter dash for the Purple Eagles. She turned in a time of 1:04.27 as she took 17th in the event.
Kate Pratt turned in a top five finish in the 800 meter. Pratt turned in a time of 2:24.62 as she finished fourth in her final regular season meet of her four year career with Niagara. It was the first time in her career that she had competed in the 800 meter.
Three Purple Eagles competed in the 400 meter hurdles. Vanessa Woolery finished fourth overall in the event with a time of 1:06.05, it was a new career best for the sophomore. Lara Gritzek finished 12th overall with a time of 1:10.56. Mychena Smith finished 13th overall as she turned in a time of 1:12.56 which set a new personal record.
Seven Purple Eagles ran in the 200 meter dash on Saturday. Borysewicz was the top finisher for the Purple Eagles as she finished fifth with a time of 25.29. Adderley-Julien finished sixth over all with a time of 25.41. John turned in a time of 25.62 as she finished ninth overall in the event. Pratt finished 16th overall as she finished with a new personal best of 25.98. Speicher finished 20th overall with a time of 26.10 which is a new personal best for the freshman. Daniela Velez turned in a time of 26.87, and Blachowicz finished with a time of 27.61.
The Purple Eagles closed the day out on top as they took home first place in the final track event of the event. John, Adderley-Julien, Blachowicz, and Woolery finished with a time of 4:03.45 as they finished just under four seconds faster than Cleveland State.
Adderley-Julien won the long jump for the Purple Eagles. She had a best jump of 5.75 meters, which is a new program record for Niagara. Clara Barr had a best jump of 5.08 meters in the event and finished 16th overall.
Megan Jackson competed in shot put for the Purple Eagles. She had a best throw of 9.70 meters. He shot put throw was the best throw of her career. Jackson all competed in discus as she had a best throw of 28.62 meters.
