Cameron Named MAAC Pitcher of the Week

Edison, N.J.—The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) announced its first Rawlings Baseball Weekly Awards on Tuesday. Niagara pitcher Zach Cameron was named Pitcher of the Week.

Cameron appeared in the first three games of the season as the Purple Eagles jumped out to a 4-0 start. In the first game of the season, he came out of the bullpen to start the eighth inning with the Purple Eagles holding a 2-0 lead. Cameron struckout two batters while getting a pair of flyouts and a groundout to pick up his first save of the season.

The Hamilton, Ont. native picked up his second save of the season in the second game of the season. He came in the seventh inning of the seven-inning game. He worked around a walk and got a flyout while ending the game on a 6-4-3 double play to earn his second save of the series.

Later in the day in the second game of the doubleheader, he came in the bottom of the ninth with a three-run lead. After getting a pair of flyouts, he induced a groundout to second to end the game.

Cameron currently leads the MAAC in saves while having an ERA of 0.00 in three appearances this season.

The Purple Eagles are back on the field this weekend for a three-game series against Queens (NC). Game one is scheduled for Friday at 5 PM.
