NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. — Nathan Dragon led Niagara's men's swimming team with multiple strong performances against Cornell on Saturday, including a victory in the 50-yard freestyle with a pool record time of 20.34 seconds.
Lance Cruz also impressed for the Purple Eagles, winning the 100-yard butterfly (50.18) and contributing to several strong relay performances. Cruz added a third-place finish in the 50 butterfly (22.85).
Sean Finley captured first place in the 100-yard breaststroke, touching the wall in 55.98 seconds. Teammate
Reid Tichy collected second-place finishes in both the 200-yard freestyle (1:41.42) and 100-yard freestyle (46.32).
Gio Germano showcased his sprinting ability with a second-place finish in the 50 butterfly (22.70). The Purple Eagles' 200-yard medley relay team of Cruz,
Jake Lauzonis, Germano, and
Levi Morgan placed third with a time of 1:30.67.
In the meet's final event, Niagara's 400-yard freestyle relay team of Cruz, Morgan, Jake Wade, and Dragon took third place (3:04.46). Their 'C' relay of
Thomas Latimer, Elliott Burgos,
James Huff, and
Jordan Grab finished fourth (3:12.11).
Elliott Burgos and
Ethan Hunter added depth in the distance events, with Burgos taking third in the 400-yard individual medley (4:04.88).
