Geneva, OH — In the opening day of the 2026 MAAC Swimming and Diving Championships, Niagara claims victory in the 800-yard relay event and setting a new conference record at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, OH.
To start the evening, Niagara's women finished a close second in the 200-medley relay, touching in 1:41.27, just .05 seconds behind Fairfield's winning time of 1:41.22.
The men quartet of
Vilem Mikula,
Lance Cruz,
Alex Subotich and
Thomas Latimer finished in fifth place in the 200-medley relay as they touched 2.42 seconds behind first place Iona.
The Purple Eagles women's 800-yard freestyle relay team of
Natalie Killion,
Megan Jackson,
Claire Gorton and
Mary Carl broke their own MAAC record with a time of 7:21.72, besting the mark of 7:23.19 they set at last year's championship. The quartet touched the wall nearly two seconds ahead of runner-up Fairfield (7:23.29).
To end the night the men 800-yard freestyle team of
Jura Domanovac,
Thomas Latimer,
Michael Levine, and
Nate Eaton finished in fourth just 6.71 seconds behind Fairfield.
Both the men (102) and women (120) currently sit in fifth place at the end of day one.
