Braden York set a program record to lead Niagara University cross country at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships on Saturday, but both Purple Eagles teams finished 10
th overall in the team standings.
York finished eighth overall in the men's 8K race with a time of 24:14.7, breaking the previous Niagara program record he set earlier this season and earning All-MAAC honors for the second time in his illustrious career. Junior
Caleb Noble was Niagara's second finisher in 52nd place (26:14.4), followed by sophomore
Luc DiFlavio in 61st (26:44.0).
Sophomore
Caleb Harman placed 77th (27:22.1), and junior
Brendan Kelly rounded out the Purple Eagles' scoring five in 84th (28:19.4). The men's team finished 10th out of 13 teams with 282 points.
Iona dominated the men's race, sweeping the top five spots to win with 15 points, en route to its NCAA record 34
th consecutive MAAC title.
On the women's side, Niagara finished 10th out of 13 teams with 285 points while Quinnipiac took the conference title for the third consecutive season with a 31-point performance.
Senior
Alissa Mete led the Purple Eagles with a 27th-place finish in 22:06.2 over the 6-kilometer course. Freshman
Alexa Briggs was the team's second finisher in 33rd (22:11.1), while senior
Sara Mueller placed 68th (23:07.5).
Senior
Sarah Mruk came in 80th (24:31.7), and freshman
Mercedez Covey completed the scoring five in 81st (24:38.7).
