HAMDEN, Conn. – Niagara men's and women's tennis took to the Nutmeg State to take part in the inaugural MAAC Masters Tournament, hosted by Quinnipiac.
 
The weekend was highlighted by Tanner Bedard and Vid Maric winning the men's doubles with a decisive 6-0 decision over Siena's Martinez and Breen. With the win, the duo will head to Rome, Georgia for the ITA Conference Masters, the first ever appearance for Niagara in the event.
 
In singles action, Bedard reached the final once again, but fell to Martinez 6-2 to finish second overall.
 
Gurustat Makkar earned a pair of wins in singles action before falling in the quarterfinal round on Saturday.
 
On the women's side, Gabriela Melo picked up a round of 32 win of 0-6, 6-1 (10-2) over Mount St. Mary's Perkins to advance to the round of 16, before dropping the match to Fairfield's Loeffler.
 
Saloni Tamang also made it to the round of 16, defeating SHU's Garriga Martinez 6-4, 6-3, before falling to Neyestani of Fairfield.
 
The Niagara women had two doubles pairings reach the quarterfinal round as Tamang and Isabel Garcia started with a first-round bye and then defeated Tang and Perkins of Mount St. Mary's to reach the quarters.
 
Melo and Larisa Kotok picked up a 6-4 win over Gell and Liu of Fairfield to advance.
 
Both doubles pairings would fall in the quarterfinal round.
