Purple Eagles Sweep 200 Free Relays, Men Set MAAC Record on Day Two of MAAC Championships

BUFFALO, NY – For the second-consecutive year, the Purple Eagles swept the 200 free relays on day two of the MAAC Men's & Women's Swimming & Diving Championships, including a MAAC record in the men's 200 free relays. 

The quartet of Kevin Vu, Levi Morgan, Alex Magditch, and Nathan Dragon capped off day two with a MAAC record time of 1:19.79, winning the event for the second-straight season. 

Moana Houde-Camirand, Megan Smith, Lila Maddux, and Paige South dominated the women's 200 free relays leading from the start and finishing the event .01 seconds off the Purple Eagles' MAAC record time set a year ago, clocking in with a time of 1:34.05. 

Avery King set a program record in the 500 free with a time of 5:03.41 for a second-place finish. 

In the men's 500 free, Nathan Dragon, Riley Dafoe, and Reid Tichy competed in the A-final, with Dragon finishing fourth with a time of 4:31.75. Dafoe and Tichy finished fifth and seventh, respectively. Earlier in the day, Dragon set a new program's best time of 4:29.16 to qualify for the final. 

The women's 200 IM saw Niagara's Megan Smith, Kayla Kreger, and Lila Maddux take fourth, fifth, and sixth, respectively. On the men's side, Jake Ruffolo finished fourth with a time of 1:50.25 after qualifying with a program record mark of 1:50.12 in the morning session. 

South picked up her first individual gold with a time of 23.36 in the 50 free. In the men's 50 free, Vu finished third with a time of 20.44, followed by Levi Morgan in fifth with a time of 20.60. 

Sydney Sarkis finished sixth overall on the 3-meter dive with a six-dive score of 194.70. 

South and Vu also set 50 free program records during the 200 free relays. 

After two days of events, the Niagara men and women sit in second place. The men's team trails Rider 228-193, and the women are behind Fairfield 253-229. 

The MAAC Championships continue Friday, Feb. 10 from the Burt Flickinger Center in downtown Buffalo, NY.
