Purple Eagles Close Out Fall Season At Navy

Annapolis, MD—The Niagara men's tennis closed out the fall season this weekend as they competed in the Navy Invite.

Manuel Alonso and Gurustat Makkar teamed up for doubles this weekend and went 1-1 on the weekend after their first doubles match was cancelled. In their first match of the weekend they faced a combined team from Binghamton and Temple. They won their opening match of the weekend 6-3. In their second match of the weekend they fell to a team from Navy 6-1.

Salvador Vazquez played a mixed doubles match with Sahil Morey from Georgetown. The duo won their match 6-3. In their second match they fell 6-4 to a duo from Navy.

Tanner Bedard had a very successful weekend as he went 3-0. In his opening match he won after his opponent withdrew. In his second match of the weekend he matched up against a player from Georgetown. He fell in the opening set 6-2 before rebounding in the second set 7-5 to force a third set. In the tiebreaker he took the win by a score of 10-7. In his final match of the weekend he won the first set 7-5 before taking the second set 6-4 for the win.

Vid Maric went 1-2 on the weekend to close out the fall season of his freshman year. He fell in his first match in straight sets 6-0, 6-3. In his second match against a player from the host Navy, he fell 6-4, 6-3 in his second match of the weekend. He closed out the fall with a win as the defeated a player from Georgetown in straight sets.

In singles, Alonso went 1-2 on the weekend. Like Maric, Alonso lost his first two matches of the weekend. In his final match he won the opening set against a player from Navy. Alonso well in the second set before taking the tiebreaking set 10-7 for the win.

Makkar went 1-1 in matches that he played this weekend after withdrawing from his first match. In his second match of the weekend he won in three sets. He fell 6-3 in his first set and responded in the second set with a 6-1 win. In the tiebreaker he won 10-5 to win the match. He fell in three sets in his final match of the weekend.

Vazquez went 1-1 in matches this weekend after two were canceled. In his first match he won the first set 7-6 but then fell in the second set to force a tiebreaker. In a back and forth third set he fell 17-15. In his final match he won 6-0, 6-1 to close out the fall season.

Niagara finishes the fall with a 1-0 dual record, Niagara will be back on the quarter in the spring as they will compete for a MAAC Championship.
