Ithaca, N.Y.—The Niagara men's tennis team closed out the Cornell Invitational on Sunday with five Purple Eagles in action.
Tanner Bedard won his first match in straight sets as he defeated a player from Cornell. In the first set he won 6-1 and then secured the match win with a 6-3 win in the second set. Bedard went 2-1 on the weekend.
Gurustat Makkar also won his match in straight sets. He faced a player from Stonehill in his final match of the weekend, Makkar took the first set 6-3 and then closed out the weekend with a 6-1 win in the second set to win the match. Makkar won three straight matches after dropped his opening match of the weekend.
Manuel Alonso also notched a win in his final match of the weekend. Alonso took the first set 6-3 before getting the match win with a 7-5 second set win. Alonso closed the weekend with a 3-1 record after dropped his first match on Saturday.
Salvador Vazquez notched a come from behind win in his set. He dropped the first set 6-4 and responded in the second set with a 6-2 win. In the tiebreaker set he won 10-3 to secured his final win of the weekend. Vazquez also finished the weekend with a 3-1 record.
Freshman Vid Maric took down a player from Stonehill in straight sets. He opened the match with a 6-1 win in the first set and then closed the match with a 6-3 win in the second set. Maric also had a 3-1 record on the weekend.
The Purple Eagles close out the fall season at the Navy Invite that runs from Nov. 11-13.
