Ithaca, N.Y. –The Niagara men's tennis team started the Cornell Invitational on Friday as six Purple Eagles were in action in the singles tournament.
Tanner Bedard was the lone Purple Eagle in the A Flight as he was the second seed in the flight. He was matched up against a player from Harvard. Bedard took the first set 6-4 but fell in the second and third sets 6-2, 6-1. He will play Saturday at 9:30 AM.
Gurustat Makkar was the third seed and faced a player from Stonehill. He fell in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1. He will play his second match of the weekend on Saturday at 11 AM.
Vid Maric earned a first round win as he drew the fifth seed. He won the opening set 6-3 before securing the win with a 6-2 win in the second set. He will be back in action tomorrow at 9:30 AM.
Rohan Srivastava advanced to the second round as his opponent was forced to retire due to an injury. He is back on the court tomorrow morning at 9:30 AM.
Salvador Vazquez drew the 12th seed and faced a played from the host Cornell. He fell in straight sets 6-1, 6-3. His weekend continues on Saturday at 11:30 AM.
Manuel Alonso earned an opening round win as they downed Maxwell Moadel from Cornell. Alonso won the opening set 6-2 before earning the 6-0 shutout in the second set. His tournament restarts Saturday at 11 AM.
All six Purple Eagles are back in action Saturday.
