Men's Tennis Competes in Viking Invite

Cleveland, OH—The Niagara Men's Team traveled to Cleveland this weekend to participate in the Viking Invitational hosted by Cleveland State.
Day 1
  • The doubles team of Trevor Masi and Tanner Bedard were matched up against a team from UB they fell 6-4 and moved to the back draw to play on Saturday.
  • Bryce Bodak and Manuel Alonso drew a first round bye in doubles, they face a duo from Cleveland State and fell 6-2.
  • The duo of Jorge Sedeno and Roberto Vaca drew a first round bye and fell in the round of 32.
  • Sedeno won his opening round match as he beat Gabe Fjardo from Holy Cross 6-1 and 6-2 to advance.
  • Alonso drew the 22nd seed in singles and faced Adi Ben Ari from Binghamton. Alonso dominated and won the first set 6-0 and advanced to the second round with a 6-2 win.
  • Bodak was seeded 27th to start the weekend and faced Laurenz Flender from Holy Cross in the opening round. After winning the opening set 6-4, his opponent retired after the fourth game. Bodak advanced to the second round.
  • Vaca faced Carl Gedlitschka from Cleveland State in the opening round after begin seed 38th. Vaca fell in two sets and was headed to the back draw. He went on to face Thomas Friesen from Holy Cross and won 6-4, 6-3 in the back draw.
  • Tanner Bedard was seeded 52nd and faced Juandedios Abboud from Cleveland State. After falling 6-1 in the first set, Bedard bounced back with a 6-1 win, but fell 10-5 in the tie breaker.
  • Masi drew the 11th seed in singles and had an opening round bye. In the round of 32 he faced William Binnie from Binghamton and fell 7-6 and 6-1.
Day 2
  • In the back draw Vaca advanced once again on Saturday as he won 6-2, 6-0 to keep playing in the invite.
  • After winning his opening match, Sedeno fell in the round of the 32 in straight sets on Saturday.
  • Alonso faced Devin Boyer from Cleveland State in the round of 32 and fell in straight sets. He went on to win in the back draw after dropping the first set.
  • After advancing to the second round Masi fell 6-4, 6-4 to Ronin Lotikar.
  • Masi/Bedard fell in the back draw while Bodak/Alonso also fell.
  • Sedeno/Vaca won in the back draw 7-5 but later fell to a team from Cleveland State.
Day 3
  • Vaca fell in three sets to close his invite.
  • Alonso won his final match of the invite in three sets.
  • Bodak also won his final match of the weekend in straight sets.

  • The Purple Eagles head back to Cleveland next weekend for the Green and While Invite hosted by Cleveland State.
