Men's Tennis Has Solid Start to Bucknell Invite

LEWISBURG, PA – The Niagara men picked up multiple victories during day one of the Bucknell Invite, including five in singles and two in doubles.

DAY 1 SUMMARY

Singles
• Niagara had four student-athletes compete in first singles on day one, with Tanner Bedard and Trevor Masi moving forward in the bracket.
• Bedard dispatched Nash Lovallo of Lafayette, 6-0, 6-2, and Masi defeated the Leopards Arman Ganchi, 6-3, 6-2.
• Three of the five Purple Eagles in second singles also advanced to the quarterfinals, including William Gothlin and Matt Andrus. They will square off with one another on Saturday for a spot in the semifinals.
• Gothlin defeated Jordi Garcia of SFU in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2, while Andrus had to battle for a straight-set win (6-1, 7-6(1)) against Ross Coleman of Lafayette.
• Roberto Vaca defeated Per Astrom 6-1, 6-4, to give Niagara another second singles win and quarterfinals appearance.

Doubles
• Niagara's first doubles pairing of Masi and Bedard and its second doubles duo of Eduardo Villalpando and Gurustat Makkar dominated their matches, defeating their opponents 6-1.

• The Purple Eagles will look to build on their day one performances on Saturday when competition resumes at 9 a.m. in Lewisburg, Pa.
