NU Completes Series Sweep Of QU, Extends Win Streak To Six

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Purple Eagles swept their season series with Quinnipiac, extending their win streak to six games. It is NU's longest win streak since the 2006 season, when they compiled six straight victories between March 18-26, 2006.

Game Recap
  • The Bobcats struck first in, scoring a run on an RBI single in the top of the first inning.
  • Niagara took the lead, 2-1, in the bottom of the first thanks to an RBI double from Max Giordano and an RBI groundout from Josh Marchese.
  • In the bottom of the second, Niagara extended its lead to 3-1 on a score from Joe Tevlin.
  • In the top of the fifth frame, an RBI double from Quinnipiac cut Niagara's lead to one, 3-2.
  • The Bobcats tied things up, 3-3, in the top of the seventh.
  • The Purple Eagles earned a walk-off win in the bottom of the seventh inning as a sacrifice fly from Peter Battaglia scored Brady Desjardins.

Eagle's Eye On
  • Giordano and Dawson Bailey led the Purple Eagles with two hits each.
  • Giordano, Marchese and Battaglia each had one RBI.
  • Ben Erwin started on the mound. He fanned three and gave up one earned run in 5.0 innings pitched.
  • Tyler Prospero (1-0) earned the win.

Game Recap
  • Niagara struck first in game two with RBI singles from Michael Gabriele and Bailey in the bottom of the second to put the Purple Eagles ahead, 2-0.
  • The Bobcats scored one run in the third and two in the fourth to take a 3-2 lead over the Purple Eagles.
  • Tevlin came up big for the Purple Eagles at the DH spot in the bottom of the seventh. He singled to center field, scoring both Cole Tucker and Battaglia to put Niagara back on top, 4-3.
  • The Purple Eagles added two insurance runs in the eighth on scores from Tucker and Bailey.
  • Niagara held the Bobcats off in the ninth to earn the win and sweep its four-game series against the Bobcats.

Eagle's Eye On
  • Chaz DeLuca (2-0) tossed his first career complete game. He fanned a career-best eight batters, while allowing only seven hits, three walks and two earned runs.
  • Desjardins and Matt Zaremba led the team in hits with two each.
  • Tevlin led the Purple Eagles in RBIs with two.
  • Giordano and Benny Serrano each had stolen base.
  • Bailey, Tucker and Zaremba each had one hit for extra bases.

Up Next
  • The Purple Eagles host Canisius for a Battle of the Bridge matchup on Wednesday, April 7. The team's will play a doubleheader, with game one set to start at 1:00 p.m.
