Purple Eagles Complete Series Split At Marist

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Purple Eagles split a doubleheader with Marist on Saturday to split the four-game season series.

Game Recap
  • Niagara got off to a hot start in game one. In the top of the first inning, a two-RBI double from Matt Zaremba and an RBI single from Max Giordano gave the Purple Eagles a 3-0 lead over the Red Foxes.
  • In the top of the second inning, Benny Serrano had an RBI single, Peter Battaglia had an RBI double and Giordano had his second RBI single of the game, helping the Purple Eagles jump out to a 6-0 lead over Marist.
  • An RBI double and a two-RBI single from the Red Foxes in the bottom of the seventh inning halved NU's lead, 6-3.
  • Marist recorded RBI singles in both the fourth and fifth frames, but the Purple Eagles remained in the lead, 6-5.
  • In the top of the sixth, Giordano went yard, giving NU a 7-5 advantage.
  • The Red Foxes added one run in the sixth, but they went down in order in the seventh and Niagara secured the 7-6 victory.

Eagle's Eye On
  • Giordano went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate. He led the team in RBIs with three.
  • Cole O'Connor had three hits for the Purple Eagles and Serrano and Dawson Bailey each had two hits.
  • Nate Mascellino (1-0) earned his first win of the season. He allowed just one hit in 1.1 innings pitched.
  • Zach Cameron picked up his third save of the season. He struck out three and gave up just two hits in 3.1 innings pitched.

Game Recap
  • The Red Foxes had a monster first inning, scoring nine runs to take an early lead over the Purple Eagles.
  • Niagara got on the board in the bottom of the second inning after a sacrifice fly from Spencer Marcus scored Joe Tevlin, but they trailed by eight, 9-1.
  • Marist added two runs in the bottom of the second inning and one run in both the third and the fourth to extended its lead over the Purple Eagles, 13-1.
  • In the top of the fifth, a sacrifice fly from Battaglia sent Liam Ward home. Niagara trailed the Red Foxes, 13-2.
  • The Red Foxes scored one more run in the sixth to take a 12 run lead over NU, 14-2.
  • An RBI single from Serrano added a run for the Purple Eagles in the top of the seventh, but it was not enough to overcome the Red Foxes and Marist earned the 14-3 victory in seven innings.

Eagle's Eye On
  • Giordano, Cole Tucker, Battaglia, Serrano, Tevlin and Michael Gabriele each had one hit for the Purple Eagles.
  • Tucker had a double and one stolen base.
  • Myles Pallister (0-1) took the loss. He struck out one and gave up five earned runs in 0.1 inning pitched.
