Purple Eagles Earn Walk-Off Win Against The Griffs

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. – The Purple Eagles earned a 6-5 walk-off win in a non-conference matchup with the Canisius Golden Griffins on Tuesday.

Game Recap
  • Canisius struck first, taking a 3-0 lead over the Purple Eagles in the top of the first inning, but the Purple Eagles tied things up, 3-3, in the bottom of the inning after a two-RBI single from Josh Marchese and a score from Max Giordano.
  • The Griffs reclaimed the lead, 4-3, in the top of the second and extended their lead, 5-3, in the fourth frame.
  • In the bottom of the seventh inning, Darian Blanks scored to put Niagara down by just one run, 5-4.
  • With two runners on in the bottom of the ninth, Benny Serrano singled to left field, sending both runners home to earn NU the 6-5 victory.

Eagle's Eye On…
  • Serrano and Marchese led Niagara with two hits each.
  • Serrano recorded a team-high and season-high three RBI. Marchese added two RBI.
  • Blanks led the team in stolen bases with two.
  • On the mound, Yohn Zapata-Baez (1-0) earned the win. In 2.0 innings pitched, he fanned two and did not allow a hit or a walk.
