CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Niagara baseball team was shutout by the Cincinnati Bearcats, 5-0, on Saturday.

Game Recap
  • The Bearcats got on the board in the bottom of the first inning with a two-RBI double and a score on a balk to take a 3-0 lead over the Purple Eagles.
  • In the bottom of the second, with bases loaded for the Bearcats, a walk scored a run. Cincinnati scored again on a sacrifice fly to extend its lead, 5-0.
  • Niagara held the Bearcats scoreless for the remainder of the game, but struggled to find offensive momentum. Joey Battaglia got Niagara's first hit of the game with a single to left field in the top of the third frame. A sacrifice bunt from Darian Blanks moved Battaglia to second, but NU wasn't able to capitalize on the next at-bat and remained scoreless. A single from Josh Marchese in the top of the fifth inning was Niagara's final hit of the game.

Eagle's Eye On…
  • Marchese and Battaglia each recorded one hit.
  • Blanks, Dawson Bailey and Max Giordano each drew one walk.
  • Despite the final result, Matthew Brash (0-4) had a strong outing, throwing six innings. After giving up four earned runs on three hits through the first two innings, Brash bounced back, at one point retiring 12 batters in a row. Brash finished with nine strikeouts and allowed just one hit through his final four innings pitched.
