ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – A complete game from Tyler Howard highlighted Niagara's doubleheader split with the New Mexico Lobos on Saturday.

Game Recap
  • The Lobos got on the board early, taking a 1-0 lead off an RBI single in the bottom of the first inning.
  • Niagara answered in the fourth inning with an RBI single from Josh Marchese to tie things up, 1-1.
  • In the bottom of the fifth frame, a two RBI triple put New Mexico back in the lead, 3-1.
  • The Purple Eagles were hot in the eighth inning, quickly loading the bases. Marty Cole was walked, sending Michael Gabriele home. A two RBI single from Joseph Tevlin scored Benny Serrano and Max Giordano to put Niagara in the lead, 4-3. The Purple Eagles tacked on one more run thanks to an RBI single from Darian Blanks.
  • Niagara held the Lobos off in the eighth and ninth to earn its first victory of the season, 5-3.

Eagle's Eye On…
  • Howard (1-1) pitched his first career complete game. He struck out three and earned his first win of the season on the mound.
  • Tevlin had a team-high two hits and two RBIs.
  •  Peter Battaglia, Serrano, Marchese and Blanks added one hit each and Marchese, Cole and Blanks each had one RBI.
  • Gabriele, Battaglia, Serrano, Giordano and Cole each had one run scored.

Game Recap
  • A two RBI double and a sacrifice fly gave the Lobos a 3-0 lead over the Purple Eagles in the first inning. New Mexico added on another run in the bottom of the fifth to take a 4-0 lead.
  • Peter Battaglia tripled in the top of the seventh to put himself in scoring position but the Purple Eagles weren't able to capitalize and still trailed by four going into the bottom of the inning.
  • With bases loaded in the top of the eighth stanza, Dawson Bailey reached base on a fielding error by the Lobos' third baseman and Giordano scored, unearned. A two RBI single from Gabriele sent Cole and Tevlin home to leave the Purple Eagles trailing by just one run, 4-3.
  • New Mexico, however, maintained its lead, scoring one more run in the bottom of the eighth and the Lobos came away with the 5-3 victory.

Eagle's Eye On…
  • Gabriele had a team-high two hits and two RBIs.
  • Bailey, Battaglia, Serrano, Giordano, Marchese, Tevlin and Matthew Grace each recorded one hit.
  • Matthew Brash (0-1) took the loss on the mound. He fanned seven and allowed just two hits and one earned run in 4.0 innings pitched.
