Baseball Opens Army West Point Classic With Loss To Boston College

CARY, N.C. – The Purple Eagles fell to Boston College, 11-3, in their first game of the Army West Point Classic on Friday.

Game Recap
  • Boston College got on the board first, taking a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning. The Eagles tacked on one run in the fourth and sixth innings and seven runs in the seventh to put NU in an 11-0 hole.
  • In the top of the ninth, with bases loaded, Benny Serrano grounded out to first base, scoring Dawson Bailey for NU's first run of the game. A single from Gabriele scored Trevor McCauley and Peter Battaglia, but it was not enough for the Purple Eagles to overcome the Eagles.

Inside the Numbers
  • Gabriele had a team-high two RBIs.
  • Battaglia, Gabriele and Nick Bernick each had one hit.
  • On the mound, Cody Eckerson (0-1) struck out seven in 4.0 innings pitched.
