NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Niagara men's tennis team was nipped by the Marist Red Foxes, 4-3, on Saturday in its regular season finale.
Prior to the match, Niagara honored its four seniors –
Inaki Belloso,
Michael Elortegui,
Olivier Dufour-Coursol and
David Raymond.
The Purple Eagles (6-9, 4-3 MAAC) dropped the doubles point for only the second time in the last seven matches, despite a win by their top doubles team. Belloso and Elortegui defeated Joe Motta and Fredrik Bjerke, 8-3, for their team-leading 15th win.
The match was tied at 2-2 after three singles matches. Elortegui defeated Justin Chanthalangsy in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1, in No. 1 singles for his third straight win. Dufour-Coursol picked up his team-best 13th win with a 6-3, 6-2 win in three singles.
Rares Ispas defeated Dylan Fletcher, 6-4, 7-5, at six singles, but the Red Foxes captured victories in four and five singles to pull out the win.
Niagara will be the fourth seed in the MAAC Tournament and will play in the semifinals on Saturday, April 25 at the Mercer County Park in West Windsor, N.J.
