Baseball Back At Home To Host Monmouth

The Niagara Purple Eagles return home to continue conference play as they welcome the Monmouth Hawks to Bobo Field for a three-game series. A doubleheader is scheduled for Saturday, April 18 with a single game scheduled for Sunday, April 19. First pitch on both days is slated for 12:00 p.m.

Purple Eagles 101 (8-18-2, 5-4 MAAC)
  • Last weekend saw the Purple and White take 2-of-3 games from conference rival Marist. Both wins were come-from-behind victories.
  • Junior Michael Fuhrman leads the team with a .372 batting average as well as 32 hits, and is second with 15 RBIs.
  • Redshirt-senior Thomas Rodrigues is second with a .314 batting average and leads the team with 17 RBIs.
  • Senior Anthony Firenzi leads Niagara with three homeruns and 11 extra-base hits. He has a slash line of .286/.351/.469 so far this season. 
  • Freshman Tanner Kirwer rounds out the top-4 with a .281 average and leads the Purple Eagles with 14 stolen bases, which is also good for second in the conference.
  • As of April 14, Niagara leads the MAAC with 53 stolen bases. Fuhrman leads the conference with his .372 batting average and a .518 on base percentage.
  • Firenzi's three homeruns has him in a tie for third in the MAAC.
  • Freshman Zach Kolodziejski leads Niagara on the mound with a 5-2 record to go with a 3.00 ERA over 48 innings pitched.
  • The Livonia, N.Y. native's five wins is top in the MAAC, while his 3.00 ERA is also good for fifth in the conference and his .232 opposing batting average is also good for the fifth spot.
 
On the Field: Monmouth Hawks (10-16, 4-5 MAAC)
  • Monmouth lands in Niagara Falls with their 10 wins coming against VCU (2), James Madison, Manhattan (2), Rutgers, Quinnipiac, Princeton, Iona, and Seton Hall.
  • Last weekend saw the Hawks lose 2-of-3 from conference opponent Iona.
  • Dave Moreno leads the team with a .288 batting average.
  • Shaine Hughes leads Monmouth with 15 RBIs.
  • Chris Gaetano tops the Hawks' offense with three homeruns.
  • On the bump, Anthony Ciavarella leads the pitching staff with a 4.05 ERA with 31 strikeouts over 40 innings.
 
Up Next for Niagara
  • Following the three-game series with Monmouth, the Purple Eagles head to Fishkill, N.Y. for a three-game set with the Manhattan Jaspers. A doubleheader is scheduled for Saturday, April 25 with a single game scheduled for Sunday, April 26. First pitch on both days is slated for 12:00 p.m.
