BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Niagara men's tennis team started its spring season with a dominating 7-0 win over the Lafayette Leopards on Friday night.
The Purple Eagles (1-0) were playing their first match under new head coach
Jerry Thor.
NU's doubles teams set the tone with identical 6-1 wins to win the doubles point. The No. 1 duo of
Inaki Belloso and
Michael Elortegui defeated Brandon Goldstein and Brian Stefanowicz and the No. 3 team of
Francis Nadeau and
Rares Ispas topped Chris Matturri and Gavin Studner.
In singles action, senior
Olivier Dufour-Coursol defeated Brian Pinkard in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1, in two singles, while doubles partner
David Raymond beat Stefanowicz, 6-1, 6-3 in four singles as NU now led 3-0. Belloso clinched the match for the Purple Eagles with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Jake Lazer. Elortegui, Nadeau and Ispas all picked up wins.
NU will face Lehigh on Saturday.
