Box Score AMHERST, N.Y. – Despite a four-run ninth inning, the Niagara Purple Eagles fell short 10-6 in the first of three games in two days against the Buffalo Bulls on Tuesday evening.
Niagara (15-26) faced a 6-0 deficit as the game headed into the sixth inning when the visitors were finally able to break through.
Joel Brophy worked the count and forced a bases-loaded walk to get NU's first run of the game before
Hayden Coll singled through the left side to cut the score to 6-2.
Buffalo (22-18) extended its lead in the bottom half of the sixth and took a 10-2 lead into the ninth. The Purple Eagles started the final inning with a pair of singles and a walk to load the bases to set up
Michael Fuhrman to cash in a runner with a single.
Greg Rodgers collected an RBI in the next at bat and
Geoff Seto scored a pair with a single to right field to cut the lead back to four, 10-6, but that was as close as NU would get.
Robert Hansen hit in the leadoff spot and went 3-for-5 for the Purple and White. Fuhrman went 3-for-4 at the plate.
Michael Bucci started on the mound and took the loss after giving up five runs (three earned) on six hits over two innings.
These two teams meet again on Wednesday for a doubleheader at Bobo Field. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
