Box Score NIAGARA UNIV, N.Y. – A three-run bomb from
Pavel Chavez-Rusova gave the Niagara Purple Eagles a late lead, but they ultimately fell to the Marist Red Foxes the 6-5 in 10 innings on Sunday afternoon at Bobo Field.
Niagara (15-25; 8-11 MAAC) faced a 4-2 deficit heading into the last of the seventh when Chavez-Rusova gave his team the lead with one swing of the bat. With
Anthony Firenzi and
Greg Rodgers on base, the sophomore sent a three-run shot over the wall in left field and NU held a lead for the first time since the fourth inning, 5-4.
A single up the middle in the top half of the eighth inning tied the game at 5-5 before a solo shot in the top of the 10
th gave Marist (13-30; 6-12 MAAC) the 6-5 win.
Both Firenzi and Chavez-Rusova went 2-for-5 at the plate with Firenzi scoring a pair of runs and Chavez-Rusova collecting three RBIs.
Liam Stroud started on the mound for Niagara and gave up two runs (one earned) on one hit through four innings.
Kevin Lucas took the loss out of the bullpen after giving up two runs on two hits over three innings.
The Purple Eagles are back in action this Tuesday when they head to Amherst, N.Y. to take on Big Four rival Buffalo at 6:00 p.m.
