ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The Niagara Purple Eagles routed the St. Bonaventure Bonnies, 6-1, for their third straight win in the series.
Niagara (10-9) started the match strongly by picking up the doubles point with victories by the teams of David Raymond and Olivier Dufour-Coursol in two doubles and Mathieu Lacasse and Lorenz Schwojer in three doubles.
After Bona (5-15) won in No. 1 singles to even the match at 1-1, the Purple Eagles reeled off five straight singles wins en route to their second consecutive 6-1 win over their Little 3 rival. Dufour-Coursol eased past Javier Ortiz, 6-2, 6-2, in No. 4 singles. Schwojer won his fifth straight match with a dominating 6-0, 6-3 decision in five singles. Raymond rallied from a set down to beat Ramazan Nureev, 2-6, 6-2, 6-3, in the three spot.
Inaki Belloso won in three sets in No. 2 singles, 6-4, 2-6, 7-5, for his 21st win of the season to move two wins shy of tying the single-season record which was set by teammate Dufour-Coursol last season. Lacasse outlasted Trevor Haskell in three sets in the sixth spot to round out the win.
NU continues it road trip this weekend at newly-minted MAAC foe Quinnipiac on Saturday and a non-conference contest at Fordham on Sunday.
