Box Score NIAGARA UNIV, N.Y. – The Niagara Purple Eagles got a strong start from
Liam Stroud but ultimately fell 6-0 in the final game against the Fairfield Stags.
Stroud gave up one single in the top of the third for the only hit surrendered on the afternoon. The freshman went 5.1 innings with the one hit and one unearned run in the top of the sixth that broke the scoreless tie and gave Fairfield (16-14; 8-3 MAAC) a 1-0 lead.
The Stags added a run in the seventh and four in the top of the ninth to come away with the 6-0 win.
Anthony Firenzi again led the team at the plate with a 2-for-4 showing.
Niagara (10-21; 3-7 MAAC) moved runners into scoring position in the second and third innings when the game was still scoreless, but each time it was unable to scratch a run across the plate.
The Purple Eagles are back on the diamond this Tuesday when they travel to Amherst for a doubleheader against the Buffalo Bulls. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
