PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Niagara Purple Eagles closed out the Philly Big Five tournament with a 6-5 loss to the Villanova Wildcats on Sunday morning.
Michael Fuhrman got the Niagara (4-10) offense going with a solo homerun in the first inning and added another RBI in the second inning with a bases loaded walk.
Joel Klock worked the count and earned another bases-loaded walk before
Greg Rodgers sent a two-run single through the right side to extend the lead to 5-0.
Drew Fittry started on the mound for the Purple Eagles and kept Villanova (4-10) off of the board in five of the six innings he pitched, but a five-run third inning tied the game at 5-5 as the game headed into the fourth. The redshirt-junior pitched six innings and gave up the five runs on five hits with five strikeouts.
Excluding the third inning, Fittry gave up one run in the other five innings pitched.
Jacob Lysiak came out of the bullpen in the seventh and turned in a three-up, three-down inning. He gave up one hit in the eighth and got two outs quickly in the bottom of ninth, but a fielding error with two runners on base gave Villanova the 6-5 win.
Fuhrman and Rodgers led the team with two RBI's apiece and now lead the team with 10 on the season. Lysiak took the loss after pitching 2.2 innings and giving up one unearned run and one hit.
