Tennis Welcomes Monmouth, Saint Peter’s This Weekend

The Purple Eagles are back home to face newly-minted MAAC foe Monmouth on Saturday and Saint Peter's on Sunday at the SportsPlex.

NU men (7-7, 1-1 MAAC) enter their matches versus Monmouth (5-6, 1-0 MAAC) and Saint Peter's (6-5, 2-2 MAAC) on a two-match skid with narrow defeats at Lehigh and defending MAAC champions Marist.  The Purple Eagles have won the doubles point in their last three matches, with the tandem of Lorenz Schwojer and Mathieu Lacasse on a six-match winning streak in three doubles. Inaki Belloso  continues to lead the team in singles with a 19-6 record.

The women (8-5, 2-0 MAAC) have won five of their last six matches heading into this weekend's matches against Monmouth (3-6, 1-2 MAAC) and Saint Peter's (3-8, 2-2 MAAC). Niagara avenged two defeats to Marist last season by nipping the defending champion 4-3 last Saturday. NU won four of six singles matches with the final victory coming from Maria Ortiz in three sets in the four spot. Freshman Paulina Velasquez is on a team-best five-match winning streak en route to a team-best 14-6 record.
