NIAGARA UNIV, N.Y. – The Niagara Purple Eagles face their first conference rival this weekend when they take on the Siena Saints on Friday and Saturday.
The series was originally scheduled to take place at Siena Field in Loudonville, N.Y., but has been moved to the campus of New York Tech in Old Westbury, N.Y. due to unplayable field conditions. The teams will play a single game Friday at approximately 3:30 p.m. and a doubleheader Saturday at noon.
Niagara (6-13; 0-0 MAAC) will look to use the momentum from its sweep of St. Bonaventure on Tuesday to turn things around against Siena (0-17) and start the conference season on the right foot. The last time NU won on the road over the Saints was on April 3, 2010 with a 4-0 victory. Niagara won 2-of-3 games that year.
The Saints are led at the plate by Vincent Citro whose .357 batting average and 12 runs scored are both team highs. Matt Gage has started a team-high five starts and leads the rotation with a 6.14 ERA.
Three Purple Eagles have taken control of run production as
Michael Fuhrman,
Greg Rodgers, and
Taylor Hackett lead their squad in RBIs. Fuhrman has 12 on the year and both Rodgers and Hackett have 11.
Jordan Schwartz leads pitching staff with 39 strikeouts and the junior's 4.18 ERA leads the starting rotation.
