The Niagara men's and women's tennis teams are back on the road to face Rider in its conference opener on Friday and will play Lehigh on Sunday.
Both programs won three of five matches during their annual spring break trip in central Florida last week. The NU men (6-5) defeated Grand Valley State, Montana State-Billings and St. Cloud State while the women (6-4) won their last three matches.
The men's team has been led by Inaki Belloso who has a team-best 18-4 record and is 9-1 in his last 10 singles matches. Belloso and doubles teammate Micheal Elortegui is 13-7 overall, which is second behind the team of David Raymond and Olivier Dufour-Coursol who are 15-8. However, it is the No. 3 pair of Mathieu Lacasse and Lorenz Schwojer who has the longest win streak at four matches.
On the women's side, three Purple Eagles finished the spring break trip on three-match winning streak in singles: Ashley Ta, Maria Ortiz and Brooke Briseno who leads the team with 13 wins. Sarah Hellstern and Ta, the last two MAAC Rookie of the Year, are both 11-12 on the season and freshman Paulina Velasquez joins them in wins with an 11-6 record.
