The Niagara women's tennis team defeated Robert Morris, 6-1, in its first dual match of the 2013-14 season.

The Purple Eagles (1-0) won all six singles matches for their third straight win over the Colonials.

NU dropped the doubles point, despite a win by the tandem of Sarah Hellstern and Paulina Velasquez who defeated RMU's Larissa Kiyoku and Marie-Sophie Heine, 6-0, in No. 2 doubles.

The Purple Eagles rolled in singles play. Hellstern won in straight set in top singles, 6-0, 6-4, over Carolina Teixeira to defeat her for the second time this season.  Ashley Ta won in straight sets in No. 2 singles and Maria Ortiz rallied from a set down to beat Heine, 1-6, 7-5, 10-7.

Freshman Brooke Briseno continued her winning streak by defeating Alina Schibol, 6-4, 6-7(5), 11-0. Iva Celan cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Kiyoku to avenge a three-set defeat in the fall. In sixth singles, Velasquez defeated Dounia Zinbi, 6-4, 6-1.

Niagara will play its first home matches of the spring season on Friday, Feb. 14 against RIT and Duquesne.
