VERONA, N.Y. – The Niagara men's tennis team completed play at the Turning Stone Classic by defeating the Colgate Raiders, 6-1, on Sunday.
The Purple Eagles (3-3) won seven of the nine matches played, including taking the doubles point for the second straight match.
The tandem of David Raymond and Olivier Dufour-Coursol defeated Alan Pleat and Archer McFall, 8-4, in No.2 doubles for its team-best 12th doubles win of the season. NU also won in No. 1 doubles when Michael Elortegui and Inaki Belloso edged Rob Alter and Luke Gensburg, 8-7 (4).
In singles, the Purple Eagles won from two singles to six singles. Raymond snapped a two-match skid with a straight set win over Bobby Berkowitz. Dufour-Coursol notched his 10th win of the season with a 6-3, 6-2 win in No. 3 singles. Belloso improved to 14-3 overall and 9-1 in his last 10 matches by dispatching Nick Laub, 6-2, 6-2, for his fifth straight win. Lorenz Schwojer and Mathieu Lacasse won in five and six singles, respectively.
Niagara will head to central Florida to participate in its annual spring break matches from March 3-10.
