NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. – The Niagara University baseball team plays its final home games of the season on Tuesday when it hosts the UB Bulls for a doubleheader at Sal Maglie Stadium.
These two teams last met three weeks ago for a single nine-inning game in Amherst, N.Y. The Purple Eagles (15-31) handled the cross-town rivals easily with a 9-3 win. They jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the top half of the first and kept the Bulls (26-18) off of the board until the eighth.
Anthony Caringi's play on the mound against Buffalo helped him win a MAAC Pitcher of the Week award. The righty threw five shutout innings and gave up just three hits and struck out four.
Ryan McCauley got hot over the weekend and will look to carry his momentum into the midweek doubleheader. Against Rider he turned in a .583 batting average, five RBIs, two doubles, a home run, and a 1.000 slugging percentage.
Only two Bulls had a multi-hit game against the Purple Eagles back in April. Thomas Richards went 3-for-4 at the dish and Nick Sinay went 2-for-4. Seven Bulls were held hitless through multiple at bats.
The teams will play two seven innings games on Tuesday with first pitch of game one scheduled for 3 p.m.
