Purple Eagles Score First But Baseball Falls In Season Finale 4-2

Box Score
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Despite getting on the board first, the Purple Eagles dropped their season finale against the Sacred Heart Pioneers 4-2 on Friday afternoon.

After struggling in the first two innings Niagara (16-38) found some success in the third when Mark Meisner singled to get on the basepath.  Robert Hansen, a freshman, laid down a sac bunt to advance Meisner and Thomas Rodrigues brought him home with a single up the middle as NU took the 1-0 lead.

Sean Quinlan (1-1) started the game on the mound for the Purp and kept the Pioneers to just one hit through the first two frames, but the home team scored four runs in the third to take the 4-1 lead.  Quinlan pitched 3.1 innings for the day and gave up the four runs on six hits and struck out three.  Jacob Lysiak Connor Sullivan, and Geoff Soja pitched the rest of the way and kept the Pioneers hitless through the final 4.2 innings.

The Purple Eagles cut the deficit in half in the fourth inning when Joel Klock drew a two-out walk, stole second, and was brought home by a Travis Rosenwinkel single to right-center field.  That was the final run the Purple Eagles would muster, however, and the Pioneers took a 4-2 win.

Quinlan took the loss for Niagara.  On offense, five Purple Eagles collected a hit, led by Klock who finished the day 1-for-2 with two walks and a run scored.
