Baseball Opens Sal Maglie With Doubleheader Against Bonna

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Purple Eagles host their first Little Three matchup of the season as St. Bonaventure comes to Sal Maglie Stadium for a doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon.

Niagara (9-20) is 5-1 in their last six games.  Over that stretch, Michael Fuhrman is leading the way on offense with a team-high .391 batting average and five RBIs.  Offense has been a team effort throughout the recent success with five players with at least three RBIs and a total of 10 players getting at least one.  Ryan McCauley and Joel Klock have combined for 11 walks.

Starting pitching has been another key for the Purple Eagles through the previous two series as the starters all have ERAs under 2.60. Geoff Soja has come out of the pen in late innings and has collected a pair of saves.

St. Bonaventure (8-14) are an even 3-3 in their last six after taking 2-of-3 against Butler before going just 1-2 against Saint Joseph’s.  Senior second baseman Jason Radwan is the main offensive threat for the Bonnies with a .426 average with 14 RBIs and 15 runs scored.  Both Billy Urban and Austin Ingraham have three stolen bases on three attempts.

Tuesday’s doubleheader will be a pair of seven-inning games.  The first game is scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m. with the second game starting about a half hour after the conclusion of the first.
