The Niagara Purple Eagles, who have won seven straight matches, return to SportsPlex to face local rival St. Bonaventure on Sunday at 8 p.m.
Niagara (11-6) will be playing its first home match since sweeping its conference weekend versus Siena and Loyola on March 16-17. The Purple Eagles are on a seven-match win streak which is their longest since winning eight straight during the 2002-03 season.
Leading the surge is
Olivier Dufour-Coursol, who has a team-best 18-6 singles record in part to a team-high seven-match winning streak. His 18 wins are the most by a Purple Eagle since Walter Garcia during the 2006-07 season. Dufour-Coursol, who was named MAAC Player of the Week on March 19, is 11-0 in No. 3 singles. Close behind is
David Raymond who is 16-8 in singles and is on a five-match winning streak. Raymond and Dufour-Coursol are a team-best 11-6 in doubles.
Third on the team in wins is
Lorenz Schwojer who is 14-5 and has won six consecutive matches. Also on a six-match win streak is captain
Brandon Gallegos (13-8).
Mathieu Lacasse and
Michael Elortegui have win streaks in singles and doubles. Lacasse has won five straight and Elortegui won his last two matches. The duo is NU’s no. 3 doubles team and has won six straight matches.
The Purple Eagles edged St. Bonaventure (5-11) 4-3 last season to snap a three-match losing streak in the series. A win on Sunday would give Niagara its most wins in a season since going 14-3 during the 2002-03 season.
