The Niagara men’s and women’s tennis teams wrap up regular season conference action with a clash against the Marist Red Foxes on Saturday at 5 p.m from the SportsPlex.
Both Niagara teams head into its final regular season conference matches with a chance to win or share the MAAC regular-season title.
The Niagara women (13-6, 6-0 MAAC) can clinch the regular-season title with a win over Marist (8-7, 5-1 MAAC). Niagara has won the regular-season title on three separate occasions (2003, 2004, 2009) while also posting undefeated conference seasons. NU’s last unbeaten MAAC season and regular-season title occurred during the 2008-09 season which was also the last time the Purple Eagles defeated the Red Foxes.

Sarah Hellstern for the team-lead in singles wins at 14; the duo is 10-3 in doubles at the two spot. Senior captain
Hilary Hansen has 13 wins in singles and
Ashley Ta has 10. Niagara has won the doubles point in six of its last seven matches with the tandem of Hansen and
Maria Ortiz leading the team with a 13-4 record. The Purple Eagles have won nine of their last 11 matches.
The Niagara men (13-8, 4-1 MAAC) can clinch a share of the regular-season title with a win against the first place Marist Red Foxes (14-3, 5-0 MAAC) and can get the No. 1 seed with a win and a loss by Fairfield on Saturday. NU can finish no worse than third.
Olivier Dufour-Coursol as a MAAC-best 21-7 record in singles. His 10-match winning streak was snapped in three sets at Binghamton.
David Raymond and
Lorenz Schwojer each have 17 wins on the season with
Mathieu Lacasse and
Brandon Gallegos close behind with 15 and 14 wins, respectively.
The Purple Eagles are winners of nine of their last 11 matches.
