The Niagara men’s tennis team went down to Virginia and Maryland last week to play four teams during its annual spring break trip.
The Purple Eagles (7-6) played George Mason, Hampton, Coppin State and Morgan State.
Niagara began last week’s matches on a five-match skip after starting the season 4-0. NU dropped its first match of the tour to GMU, 4-1, on March 6.
Lorenz Schwojer picked up the Purple Eagles’ lone win with a straight set victory.
Niagara jumped back into the winning column the following day by blanking Hampton, 4-0. Niagara won both doubles matches to take the point, and got singles wins from
Michael Elortegui,
Olivier Dufour-Coursol and Schowjer.
NU won its second straight on March 9 by defeating Coppin State, 5-2. NU won all three doubles matches before going 4-2 in singles matches. The Purple Eagles concluded their trip by cruising past Morgan State, 5-1, on March 10. Niagara won the doubles point and five of the six singles matches.
The doubles tandem of Elortegui and Mathieu Lacasse went 3-1 in doubles during the trip, including winning three straight. Schwojer went 3-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles with partner
Brandon Gallegos. Schwojer is on a four-match winning streak in singles. Dufour-Coursol is on a three-match winnings streak and is 7-3 in his last 10 matches.
Niagara returns home to face MAAC foes Siena (March 16) and Loyola (March 17).
