Baseball Falls To Wofford In Shortened Game

Box Score
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – In a snow-shortened game, the Niagara baseball team fell to the Wofford Terriers 9-1 on Saturday afternoon.

The Purple Eagles (0-2) were the first team on the board. They took a 1-0 lead over the Terriers (2-0) in the top half of the first.  After game started with a pair of outs, Kevin Paulsen showed patience at the plate and drew a walk.  A single from Ryan McCauley advanced Paulsen to third before Christian Vangeison singled for his third RBI in the first two games.

Vangeison, a freshman from Temecula, Calif., finished the game 1-for-1 adding a pair of walks.  Paulsen finished the game with three walks, leaving the junior without an official at bat but giving him an on-base percentage of .500 through the first two games.

Wofford tied the game in the bottom of the second on a RBI-single, then added four runs in each of the third and fourth innings.  Niagara was held off of the board in the top half of the fifth before the game was called.

Jim Fort(0-1) took the loss.  Sean Quinlan saw his first action of the year, pitching one inning out of the bullpen.

The second game of the doubleheader was cancelled because of the inclement weather.  Tomorrow’s game against Kentucky is still scheduled for noon.
