HARMAR, Pa. – The Niagara men’s tennis team had its four-match win streak snapped in a 6-1 loss to the Duquesne Dukes on Sunday.
The Purple Eagles (4-1) began singles play down 1-0 after losing the doubles point. NU was competitive in five of the six singles matches.
David Raymond fell to Pete Carpenter, 7-5, 7-6 (6) in two singles;
Michael Elortegui rallied from a set down allow to fall in three sets in No. 3 singles;
Olivier Dufour-Coursol lost to Alex Aleman, 6-3, 7-6 (10-2) and
Lorenz Schwojer had his seven match win streak snapped in straight set lost to Max Rubin, 6-4, 6-4.
Mathieu Lacasse recorded NU’s only win on the day. Lacassee fought back from a set down to win in three, 2-6, 7-6 (5), 10-6, in No. 6 singles.
Niagara was on unbeaten through its first four matches of the season, its best start since the 2005-06 season.
The Purple Eagles are back on the court to play Bucknell in Olean, N.Y. on Saturday.
