Baseball Holds Annual Charity Hockey Game

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY., NY- The Purple Eagles baseball team held its 11th annual charity hockey game at Dwyer Arena on Tuesday, Dec. 4 to raise money for the Chachko family.

The event was held this year in honor of Barbara Chachko, the mother of former Niagara baseball player Dennis Chachko.  Barbara was recently the victim of significant structural damage to her house and personal property as a result of Hurricane Sandy that affected the entire East Coast of the United States last October.

“"Having the Chachko family a part of this program was a blessing,” said baseball head coach Rob McCoy.  “Any time we could do something to help them out, we wouldn't hesitate."

The game featured the position players versus the pitchers and each team included players who had no previous experience playing hockey.  The supportive crowd that came out to cheer on their favorite Niagara University baseball players watched the pitchers skate to a narrow 6-5 victory.

The game raised $100 and the team donated another $400 for the cause.
