Baseball Starts Home Stretch Against Saint Peter's

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. – The Niagara baseball team looks to keep momentum rolling into the weekend when it squares off with the Saint Peter’s Peacocks at Sal Maglie Stadium for the second to last conference series of the season.
 
Niagara (17-25, 5-12 MAAC) enjoyed mid-week success when it sweept crosstown rival Buffalo on Wednesday for the second time this season. NU now turns its focus back to MAAC play when it faces Saint Peter’s (18-26, 8-7 MAAC) this weekend.  The last time the Purple Eagles and the Peacocks played in Niagara Falls as the second to last conference series of the season was in 2010 when Niagara swept the series and outscored Saint Peter’s 21-12.

The Peacocks enter the weekend with a 5-5 record in the last 10 games and an 11-22 road record on the year.  The Purple Eagles are one game above .500 (5-4) in home games this season.  
 
Justyn Carter is Saint Peter’s main offensive threat, leading the team in batting average (.336), on base percentage (.425), hits (38), runs (20), and stolen basses (17). 
 
For Niagara, senior Wynton Bernard stole a pair of bases on Wednesday, giving him sole possesion of second in most stolen bases in a season in the program’s history with 29.  With six games left to play, he is four steals away from a tie for first place, which is currently 33.
 
The matchup begins with a doubleheader on Saturday, with first pitch scheduled for Noon.
