Baseball Wraps Up Season Against Rival Canisius

Live Stats

Niagara Falls, N.Y. – The Purple Eagles are set to wrap up the 2012 season with a three-game set against crosstown rival Canisius on Thursday and Friday.

Niagara (19-26, 7-13 MAAC) enter the series winners in four of its last five games after sweeping a pair of doubleheaders against Big Four rival Buffalo and MAAC rival Saint Peter’s.  Canisius (28-25, 13-8 MAAC) is also on a 4-1 clip in its last five contests with wins over Marist and Iona.

Two Purple Eagles will look to complete their ascent in the record books.  Ryan McCauley has already tied the single-season home run record with his 12 round-trippers and can take sole-possession of first place with one more this week.  He also enters the series leading the MAAC in the Triple Corwn categories (batting average, home runs, and RBIs).

Wynton Bernard was already on the top-five of the most stolen bases in a season list with the 23, which he set in his freshman year, but the senior has taken his game to the next level this season.  The Poway, Calif. native has 31 stolen bases this season, putting him just shy of the all-time record that was set in 2006.

Thursday’s doubleheader will be played at Sal Maglie Stadium with first pitch scheduled for Noon.  Before the opening game of the series there will be a Senior Day Ceremony for the seven seniors in the class of 2012.  Friday’s game is also scheduled to begin at Noon but will be played on campus at Bobo Field.
