LOUDONVILLE, N.Y – The Purple Eagles baseball team enters the stretch run of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play this weekend, when they head to Siena to take on the Saints in a three-game series this weekend at Siena Field.
This weekend is one of the final three MAAC series for Niagara (15-22, 5-9 MAAC). Niagara is two games back of the last spot for the conference tournament with nine conference games left to play, six of which will be played at home.
The infield-corner duo of
Eric Hink and
Ryan McCauley are at the top of several MAAC statistical categories. They are first and second, respectively, in batting average and hits. McCauley is first in slugging percentage and total bases, while Hink is third in both.
Wynton Bernard continues his charge to the top of the stolen bases all-time record. Bernard has 26 stolen bases on the season, two away from second place and seven away from Niagara's Single Season Stolen Base record.
Siena (13-28, 4-8 MAAC) enters the series on a five-game losing streak, after having been swept by Saint Peter’s, bookended with losses to Farleigh Dickinson and Holy Cross. Ted Trymbiski leads the team with a .309 batting average and John Rooney has a team-high 20 RBIs.
The last time these teams met at Siena, the Purple Eagles took the series after winning the last two games. This year's series begins with a doubleheader on Saturday with first pitch at noon.
