Baseball Heads To Ohio

The Purple Eagles will visit Ohio for a non-conference matchup with Kent State on Tuesday afternoon at Olga A. Mural Field at Schoonover Stadium.

Niagara (15-21) enters the game with a 5-5 record in its last 10 games.  Before dropping three games to Fairfield last weekend, the Purple Eagles had won four-straight games.

After the five games played last week (two against Buffalo and three against Fairfield), Eric Hink now leads Niagara with a .385 batting average.  The senior from Harleysville, Pa. went 9-for-21 at the plate for a .429 average and tied for the team-high of five RBIs with Wynton Bernard

Bernard, who has started every game this season at center field, also added three stolen bases to give him 24 on the year and tied him for fourth all-time for most stolen bases in a season.  The senior is two swipes away from third place and four away from second.

The Purple Eagles will start Tyler Spear for the third time this season.  Spear has a 2-2 record so far this season and is coming off a win last week against the Buffalo.

Kent State (23-16) comes into the contest with a 7-3 record in its last 10 games and an 8-2 record at home.  The Golden Flashes are led by Nick Hamilton’s .420 average and George Roberts’ 33 RBIs.  Niagara will face freshman-southpaw Tim Faix who will be making his second start of the year.  Faiz has a 1-0 record with a 1.29 ERA.
